Silky Shark

Carcharhinus falciformis

The silky shark is a Pelagic species which is found in tropical to subtropical

waters in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacic Oceans on continental shelves

where food is abundant.

They have been recorded at depths of up to 4000m. The upper jaw teeth are

diagonally triangular in shape with large serrations on both sides, the tooth

in this collection is from the lower jaw, where teeth are long, slender and

pointy with no serrations.

Silky sharks feed mainly on bony shes from all depths and are recorded to

grow to 2.4m (7.9ft) long. This species has been implicated in only a few

attacks on humans due to its remote habitat.
