Shortfin Mako Shark Isurus oxyrinchus is a large mackerel shark, they are the fastest shark known to man. They are found worldwide in temperate and tropical deep ocean waters, they are a pelagic species found from the surface to over 150m deep. The average size is 10 foot long but have been recorded at over 14 foot.
They feed mostly on cephalopods, bonito, mackerel, porpoises, sea turtles, other sharks, swordfish and many other bony fishes, they are sought for their game fishing fight and acrobatic flips upon capture.
The international shark attack file has recorded that Mako sharks are responsible for 18 unprovoked attacks on humans, 1 of which have been fatal.
